Treat individuals and caregivers with the same respect and dignity as others receive and recognize unique family strengths


Try to arrnage for short wait times and a low stress, quiet environment, with special or separate waiting rooms


Always speak directly to the individual


Realize that extra time will be needed for any appointments


Realize that caregivers may have extra questions, be sure to give them enough time and encouragement to get all needed information


See the individual as a person with unique needs, not as a “disabled person”


Familiarize yourself with additional resources in order to make appropriate referrals that may be needed
